NRM's Museveni leads with close to 74% in fifth set of official EC results

 UPDATE AS AT 10PM FRIDAY 

 

Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni has maintained a commanding lead, according to the latest preliminary results released by the Electoral Commission (EC) at 10.00pm on Friday, January 16, 2026.

 

EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said results had so far been tallied from 41,177 polling stations, representing 80.15% of the total number of polling stations nationwide.

 

Museveni has so far garnered 6,851,406 votes, accounting for 73.72% of the valid votes counted.

 

▪️ Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP): 1,709,474 votes (21.33%)
▪️ James Nathan Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC): 157,111 votes (1.96%)
▪️ Gregory Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT): 44,367 votes (0.55%)
▪️ Frank Bulira Kabinga of Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP): 35,315, votes (0.44%)
▪️ Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party (NPP): 24,564 votes (0.31%)
▪️Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man's Party (CMP): 22,232 votes (0.28%)
▪️Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP):16,813 (0.21%)

 

“The valid votes altogether of the candidates so far are 9,293,812. Invalid votes are 230,897, constituting 2.42% of the total votes cast,” said Byabakama.

 

The total number of votes tallied so far stands at 9,524,709, representing 44.00% of registered voters. Spoilt votes recorded are 32,760.

 

Uganda has 21,649,067 registered voters on the national voters’ register, while the total number of polling stations countrywide is 50,739.

 

Byabakama said the EC would continue releasing results at regular intervals, with the next update scheduled for 9.00am on Saturday.
