Incumbent Bardege-Layibi Division Member of Parliament (MP) Martin Ojara Mapenduzi has retained his seat, according to the official election results released by the Electoral Commission in Gulu city.
The announcement today, January 16, 2026, follows the General Election a day earlier.
Mapenduzi who garnered 8,835 votes, defeated four other candidates, including Lyndro Komakech (DP) who got 4,417 votes, National Unity Platform's Robinson Akera (442 votes), Alliance for National Transformation's Robert Mugabe (251 votes) and independent Michael Ocula (127 votes).
Bardge–Layibi Division has 53,735 voters and 112 polling stations, according to information obtained from Gulu City Electoral Commission returning officer Mike Jjuuko.
However, Komakech refused to concede defeat, saying there was a lot of manipulation and that he would seek legal redress.
In the 2021 general election, Mapenduzi, then Independent candidate garnered 6,503 votes to become the first Member of Parliament for the same position, beating Komakech who obtained 4,006 votes.
