Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has maintained his early lead, according to the latest and third set of provisional results released by the Electoral Commission (EC) Friday afternoon.
EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said the total number of polling stations from which they had received results by then was 30,138, which is 59.4% of the total number of polling stations.
Museveni has so far garnered 5,148, 845 votes, which is 75.38% of the valid votes counted so far.
The other presidential candidates have so far received the following votes:
▪️ Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP): 1,414,619 votes (20.71%) ▪️ James Nathan Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC): 144,564 votes (2.12%) ▪️ Gregory Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT): 38,582 votes (0.56%) ▪️ Frank Bulira Kabinga of Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP): 29,713 votes (0.44%) ▪️ Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party (NPP): 20,626 votes (0.30%) ▪️Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man's Party (CMP): 19,034 votes (0.28%) ▪️Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP):14,106 (0.21%)
“The valid votes all together of the candidates so far are 6,830,089. Invalid votes are 170,655, constituting 2.44% of the total votes cast," said Byabakama.
The total votes tallied so far are 7,000,744. Constituting 32.34% of the registered voters. Spoilt votes are 22,356.
The total number of registered voters is 21,649,067 on the national voter's register and the total number of polling stations is 50,739.
Byabakama said EC would be releasing the result at regular intervals and the next session will be at 6pm on Friday.
Byabakama took special recognition of former Nigerian President Jonathan Goodluck, who is the head of the African Union (AU) election observers’ mission to these elections, heads of missions, ambassadors and all distinguished head of the various missions who were present at Lweza.
Solomon Muhumuza, the director of technical services at the Electoral Commission, explained the breakdown of the data to the observers, agents of the candidates and the media.
He said the Election Results Visualization System (ERVS) is helping the commission visualize results right from the national level to the polling station "so that at the end of the day, we are able to see the results that finally aggregate what the chair of the EC is reading as results".
