Minister Mao beats Fr Onen in Laroo-Pece Division MP race

Mao, who contested under the Democratic Party ticket, obtained 7,359 votes, defeating Onen, who got 5,562 votes and Tony Kitara (2,867 votes).

Justice Minister Norbert Mao has taken the crown from Fr Charles Onen to become the Member of Parliament-elect for Gulu city's Laroo-Pece Division.

 

Mao, who contested under the Democratic Party ticket, obtained 7,359 votes, defeating Onen, who got 5,562 votes and Tony Kitara (2,867 votes).

 

Other candidates like Simon Opoka got 381 votes, Geoffrey Komakech got 236 votes, Wilfred Opobo got 207 votes, Charles Odokonyero got 77 votes and Samuel George Okello got 65 votes.

 

The total number of voters in Laroo-Pece, as per Electoral Commission data of 2026 are 66,559 from 142 polling stations.

 

The total number of valid votes was 16,754, while the invalid votes were 795.

 

In the 2021 General Election, Onen was voted to Parliament with a total of 6,633 votes, defeating others like Geoffrey Komakech with 1,619 votes, Simon Opoka with 698 votes and Charles Odokonyero who got 36 votes.
