'The Ugandan Gospel' premieres, challenging Christians

You have probably heard the gospel. Or at least you think you have. Perhaps as a regular church attendant, or maybe through multiple encounters with Christian references and holidays that decorate Ugandan culture.

But what is the actual Christian gospel? And is it what is commonly presented to and understood by Ugandans?

For answers to these and many other similar questions, introducing the Ugandan Gospel.

“A feature-length documentary series that explores the intersection of traditional beliefs, modern prosperity teachings, and the unchanging truth of Scripture”, the Ugandan gospel goes far and wide to peel back the layers of religious culture to reveal the heart of the Gospel”, according to its creators.

Multiple evangelical Churches and para-Church organisations came together for the project that will provide a historical and cultural analysis of the alterations to the gospel in Uganda, in addition to interviews and insightful footage captured from people all across the nation.

The premier of the docuseries is today at The Innovation Village in Bugolobi, with access to the public due six days later. Attendance for the premier was by booking.

For the Ugandan Gospel, the goal is to “explore how traditional African spirituality often blends with contemporary practices in Ugandan churches, to re-center “the conversation on the sufficiency of Christ and the authority of the Word”, and to challenge “Ugandan Christians to move beyond religious trends and return to the transformative power of the Gospel”. 

The Ugandan Gospel is the Ugandan rendition of the American Gospel, which looked at similar motifs from the American perspective.
