During a heated weekend meeting, parents of Mbale High School defied a government ban on extra school charges and voted unanimously to maintain a voluntary PTA contribution of sh80,000 per learner to save the institution from an operational crisis.
During his funeral service on July 20, Ssekadde’s family told mourners that he had previously lived in Lufuka Zone but moved to the new home immediately after purchasing it because owning a storied house had always been one of his biggest dreams. The family, however, did not disclose details surrounding the circumstances, but revealed that the previous owner of the house also died under unclear circumstances.
The fraternity of the school also celebrated the school’s patron saint’s day and 100 years of the dynamic presence and Christian educational ministry of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, who administer it. The colourful celebrations took place at the school at Kitovu, Masaka City.

The discussions centred on strengthening the existing Erasmus+ partnership while exploring new opportunities in joint research projects, academic programmes, curriculum development, staff and student exchanges, digital transformation and capacity building.

Comfort Ikaidu, 16, highlighted the challenges learners continue to face both at school and within their communities, including bullying and peer violence, sexual harassment and exploitation, corporal punishment and emotional abuse, online abuse and cyberbullying, as well as child neglect and discrimination.
“We teach vocational and technical skills that empower our learners beyond the classroom. This support will greatly improve practical training and help many young women build sustainable livelihoods,” Sserwanga said.
"Parents must stop abandoning their core responsibilities. Children cannot learn effectively on empty stomachs, regardless of how many computers we donate; these pupils need lunch at school, so I encourage you to contribute lunch to the school whenever you're called to do so,” Ssemwanga added.
Under the TVET Act, institutions offering technical and vocational programmes must register them with the TVET Council within 12 months of the law coming into force. Unlicensed providers have six months to regularise their operations.
The phase one project, funded by the Government of Uganda with an investment of close to sh4b for the facelift, involved renovating key facilities including the central teaching block, administration block, main library, law library, main hall, science and computer laboratories, primary education lab, toilets, and associated external works.
Rwamirama noted that the commissioned infrastructure will greatly bolster the Universal Primary Education and Universal Secondary Education programmes.
According to court proceedings, the first incident allegedly occurred in May 2026 when Odeke, a teacher at Mother’s Pride Nursery and Primary School in Gulaama village, Goma, trapped the girl inside the students' dormitory where he allegedly raped her.
Eyewitnesses said several learners sustained fractures and other injuries before being rushed to Kamuli General Hospital and Busota Health Centre III for treatment. By press time, police had not yet issued an official statement confirming the cause of the crash or the number of casualties and injuries.
“The two buses were intercepted today at Golf Course during a traffic operation.The two drivers transporting pupils of St. Kizito Primary School to a tour were charged with the relevant traffic offences and are detained at Kampala Central Police Station pending appearance before court.
Without revealing the number or the condition of the victims, Kayongo, the UPF liaison officer, said the priority was to reunite survivors with their families. She added that proof of parenthood or guardianship will also be used to verify the exact number of passengers who had been on board before the fatal crash.
"As an immediate precautionary measure, we must do something about the safety of our children. All school trips and education excursions are suspended with immediate effect until further notice," directs acting education minister Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo.
Also confirmed dead is Mr Tadeo Ssekade, the founder and Director of the school.Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police spokesperson, revealed that the fatal crash involved a bus, registration number UA 108BQ, that was transporting pupils.
“On June 17, her body’s immune system weakened. Malaria attacked and damaged her organs, including her kidney, requiring dialysis. Even if she had survived, she was going to need a kidney,” he said. Kimuli explained that, despite intensive care, dialysis and blood transfusions, Mulungi died from respiratory failure after bleeding into her lungs, triggered by severe inflammation caused by malaria.
“For instance, you can start up an awareness campaign online about the needs of your communities. Such a project cannot only attract support but can help you reach more numbers,” disclosed Kafeero.
