A makerere university student, Juliet akankwasa, 22, was named the new Miss Uganda on Saturday at a poorly attended function at Bat Valley in Kampala. She, however, walked away without the crown.
She is the daughter of the Rev. Eddie akankwasa of Rukungiri.
Esther Mukasa and beatrice Kabajumbi, both students of makerere University, were the first and second runners-up. Akankwasa will represent Uganda at the Miss World contest in China in November.
MKM Promotions, a UK-based company, organised the pageant, attended by about 50 people. Entry was free.
Unlike previous pageants, the new beauty queen walked away empty-handed.
