By William Muwonge KENYAN golf star Rose Naliaka is yet to indicate whether she will defend the Uganda Open title she won last year. The 54-hole strokeplay event due at the Kitante course starts on Friday. Naliaka, east Africa’s top lady player, is widely travelled with a rich collection of titles. The seasoned player extended her record to three wins last year having taken the title in 1994 and 1993. Naliaka set a record of winning the event on every appearance. The towering player claimed victory last year with a massive 33 strokes ahead of Uganda’s Monica Ntege. Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) president Alice Kego, said yesterday that there is no word yet from Naliaka. “We have not heard from her, but if she finally comes, it will be good,†Kego said. Reports say Naliaka could go for the Kenya ladies matchplay championship due this weekend in Nairobi. Over 80 players have entered Uganda’s top ladies golf event whose leading players (below handicap 20) will compete in the main event. Players above handicap 21 are drawn in the subsidiary event. A 36-hole subsidiary event for men will also be held starting on Saturday. Action is scheduled to start at 7.30am. Ends
