UGANDAN squash is light years behind the rest of the continent, last week’s Castrol Open confirmed.
By Douglas Mazune UGANDAN squash is light years behind the rest of the continent, last week’s Castrol Open confirmed. Players from Zambia and Botswana came to Kampala and dominated the tournament. The final was in fact an all-Zambian affair, with Lazarus Chilufya, beating his brother Felix. The foreign players have now dared Christopher Musaazi — the best Uganda can produce — to win a single game against them at Kampala Club tonight, and get paid for it. Musaazi can restore his and Uganda’s battered pride, by trying to snatch a game from third ranked Lekgora Mosope of Botswana. “(Musaazi) cannot turn. If he turns he will break his back, he will need a doctor around†19-year-old Mosope said. Castrol winner Chilufya also intends to whip Ugandan seed two Brian Okumu 27-0 while Felix Chilufya will be looking for a 45-0 win over seed three Paul Nkambwe. Squash enthusiasts Amos Nzeyi, Tom Mugenga, Franco Mugabe and Richard Apire have sponsored the challenge games to a tune of sh0.7m. Ends
