Saleh Denies Being Groomed For President

Retired major General Salim Saleh has refuted allegations that he is being groomed to replace President Yoweri Museveni as head of state in the year 2006.

Nathan Etengu Retired major General Salim Saleh has refuted allegations that he is being groomed to replace President Yoweri Museveni as head of state in the year 2006. Saleh was on Monday addressing a gathering at the Islamic University in Uganda. He said he had never had any intention of becoming the President of Uganda. Saleh said he was still much concerned with his studies. "I have never thought of contesting for the presidency of this country. I am still pursuing my studies," Saleh, the younger brother of President Museveni said. He was invited by the University authorities to give financial support for the construction of two hostels for the students union. Saleh said he would participate in a fund raising for the construction of the hostels. He also said he was considering joining the University in September this year. Saleh also promised to remind President Museveni about the pledge of a bus he made to the university. He did not directly campaign for Museveni during the visit but requested the students and the University community to look into his eyes so that they could see what he expected from them. "You can look into my heart to know what I mean," Saleh said. Ends
