All National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearers, who are also incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs), in Kikuube district have reclaimed their seats.
According to the results declared by Kikuube district Electoral Commission returning officer Emmanuel Twine, incumbent District Woman MP Florence Natumanya polled 43,342 votes (65.86%), beating Joan Kyomuhendo, an independent candidate who got 22,464 votes (34.14%).
However, Kyomuhendo had earlier lost to Natumanya in the NRM primaries but rejected the results, claiming irregularities.
In Buhaguzi constituency, Francis Kazini Twinomujuni beat Dan Muhaire, Jackson Halela, both independents and National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Peter Senjubu, to the parliamentary seat.
Kazini got 21,336 votes, while his closest rival, Dan Muhairwe, got 17,974 votes. Halela polled 549 votes, while Senjubu 2,106 votes.
Muhairwe had also earlier lost in the NRM primaries but rejected the results crying foul.
Returning officer Twine also declared Steven Asera Itaza as the winner of the Buhaguzi East constituency after he beat four candidates: Hillary Kato Bazaara (NUP) and independents Eng. Julius Ahura, Nelson Junjura and his brother Julius Bigirwa Junjura.
According to the results Itaza got 10,668 votes (44.28 %), beating his closeted rival, Bigirwa who got 8,422 votes (34.96%).
Ahura pulled 3,862 votes (16.03%), while Kato got 800 votes (3.32%) and Junjura 273 votes (1.13%).
Speaking after they were declared winners, Kazini, Natumanya and Itaza commended the voters for giving them another mandate and promised to prioritise service delivery, such as improvement of roads, health, education and fighting land grabbing and electricity connection.
Returning officer Emmanuel Twine commended the people who turned up to vote, adding that the election was free and fair.
Kikuube residents district commissioner Godwine Agalia Kasigwa said that he was happy that all NRM flag bearers and the president were overwhelmingly voted.
He noted that the elections were peaceful, adding that there was no incident of violence that was registered.
