Bunyoro Kitara bishop Jacob Ateirweho has urged residents of Bunyoro and Ugandans at large to forgive and forget the ills that occurred during the presidential and parliamentary elections.

The prelate says many things, including insults, provocation and malice, among others, happened during political campaigns and on election day, leaving many people with injured hearts.

He adds that there is a need for Ugandans to forgive and forget whatever transpired and to forge a way of moving the country forward.

He made the call on January 18, 2026, during a Confirmation service at All Saints’ Church in Hoima city where he confirmed 152 Christians into the Anglican faith.

The bishop advised the public to avoid revenge against those they think wronged them during the election period.

He also challenged Ugandans to remain united and not to allow Satan to divide them and to strive to live at peace with one another.

In his preaching, Ateirweho quoted Romans 12:17, which instructs believers not to repay evil with evil, but rather to "be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone," focusing on honourable actions, living peacefully and leaving vengeance to God, ultimately aiming to overcome evil with good.

“Let us be one, let us be united despite our political Affiliation, because we are all children of God, we are all in Uganda, and we shall remain in Uganda,” he advised.

To the confirmed Christians, the bishop said they should remain rooted in Christ and embrace intensive prayers to ensure that they overcome the challenges they encounter in life.

Joshua Wabyona, the Vicar of All Saints, commended the bishop for preaching the words of peace and confirming the Christians. He noted that over 3,000 Christians were confirmed in the year 2025.

However, he expressed concern over a group of people who wanted to grab the church land and appealed to the diocese to address the issue.
