The Ugandan football fraternity is mourning the loss of Vipers and Nigerian striker Abubakar Lawal, who tragically passed away on Monday.

He joined Vipers in July 2022 from Rwandan giants AS Kigali on a two-year deal, which was extended last year.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning," the club announced on X on Monday.

The club said Lawal's body was taken to a yet unknown medical facility for postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Though he has not started many games for Vipers this season, he often made a significant impact when brought on.

The pacy goal-scorer previously played in the Nigerian Premier League with Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC, and FC Nasarawa.
