Two arrested over death of SC Villa captain Owori
Police have arrested two suspects after tracking the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max of late SC Villa captain David Owori, who died from injuries sustained in an attack earlier this week.

Two people have been arrested over the death of footballer David Owori, the captain of Ugandan topflight side SC Villa.
Owori succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was attacked on Tuesday this week, sparking an outpouring of tributes from sports fans and beyond.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the two suspects were arrested after tracking Owori's stolen phone.
He named the suspects.
"It has been established that the deceased was robbed of an iPhone 14 Pro Max. The tracking of the stolen phone has led officers to two suspects: Bashir Munyaneza alias ‘Jemo’, a suspected dealer in stolen mobile phones, and his associate Samuel Magoba."
The police also recovered four bags of suspected stolen phones including: 80 iPhones, 40 Samsung phones, eight Redmi phones, two Tecno phones, two Infinix phones, two Vivo phones, three button phones, four motherboards, three iPads and SIM cards (MTN, Safaricom, Airtel, Lyca).
Kituuma said other items recovered included ladies’ bags with identification documents, phone covers and hard drives.
"Investigations are ongoing to establish the full network and link the exhibits to reported cases," he said.
On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) said their territorial police at Katwe Division were actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Owori, also known as "Colgate," a 28-year-old captain of Sports Club Villa and a resident of Dubai Zone, Makindye Division, Kampala District.

The club, the most successful in Uganda with a record 17 league titles, said it would retire the shirt number 15 in honour of its late captain, who breathed his last at Case Clinic in Kampala on Wednesday.
He had been found unconscious by passers-by late night along Nalinya–Mpologoma Road in Dubai zone, Makindye II parish in Makindye division.
Racheal Kawala, the spokesperson of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, said they rushed him to Sir Albert Cook Hospital for emergency attention.
"At about 2:00am, he was referred to Case Hospital for specialised care, where he was later pronounced dead.”
Kawala said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
