St. Peter's, Bombo Army, Empower, Kigezi Book Lacrosse semifinal slots

Defending champions Empower International Academy, St. Peter's College Tororo, Bombo Army School, and Kigezi High School are the four schools that have secured semifinal slots in the lacrosse competition at the ongoing USSSA National Ball Games II and Athletics.

The semifinals are scheduled for today, July 8, 2026, following impressive performances in Tuesday morning's games played at Gulu Primary School grounds. The national event is being co-hosted at Sacred Heart Girls SS and Gulu High School.

Isaac Aijuka, a member of Empower International Academy, said the team is on a serious mission to defend both the national and international trophies the school won during the 2025 USSSA Nationals in Tororo and the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games in Kakamega, Kenya.

"We are currently on a mission to ensure that we defend the two trophies we obtained during national and international engagements. Nothing less than that," Aijuka stated.

Aijuka remained optimistic that the team would continue with the same spirit of togetherness as they prepare to face their challenging opponents. In the boys' semifinals, Empower International Academy will face St. Peter's College Tororo, while Bombo Army School will take on Kigezi High School.

In the girls' category, Bombo Army SS will face Nabisunsa Girls, while Muza High School will battle St. Mary's College Namagunga.

"I have admired the tactics that Empower International Academy and Bombo Army players are showcasing. It's clear that the lacrosse game is spreading in the country," said Charity Adong, a lacrosse fan.

Herbert Enedy, patron of Bombo Army School, said they are ready to give their all to ensure they win the national trophy this time.

"Last year, we lost the trophy to Empower International Academy in the final, but this time around, there is no space for them," he added.

Mugisha Christopher Banange, Chief Executive Officer of USSSA, confirmed that the championship has been peaceful and well-organised.

"So far, so good. The level of competition is high, and schools are battling for FEASSA slots. I'm impressed by the discipline, especially from team coaches," Mugisha said.

He also praised the turnout and conduct of participants. "The fan turnout has been fantastic, especially for netball, and I'm impressed with the discipline shown by students, coaches, and officials from all the participating districts and zones."
