Hundreds of runners, athletes, and enthusiasts turned up on Saturday, December 10, 2025, for the Soroti Cricket Academy Charity Run, which attracted a large crowd to the city.

The annual event, organized by Soroti Cricket Academy, featured races in the 5km, 10km, and 15km categories. Its primary goal is to raise funds to support the academy’s mission of building dreams through sports and education.

Felix Musana, chairperson of Soroti Cricket Academy, hailed the run as a success, noting that at least 500 kits were sold. “I want to thank the Teso community and Soroti Cricket Academy followers for turning up in big numbers and supporting the event. As an association, we apologize for any inconveniences experienced, but we hope to improve in future editions,” Musana said.

The event was described as vibrant and energetic, capped by a post-race festival featuring music, dance, and performances from local artists.

Athlete Julius Opio, who participated in the 15km race, praised the initiative. “I want to thank Soroti Cricket Academy for coming up with such a great idea, giving runners the opportunity to showcase their talents,” he said. Opio, who clocked 1 hour and 23 minutes, revealed his ambition to compete at the national athletics trials at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, in 2026.

Representing the CEO of Cricket Uganda, Davis Turinawe applauded Soroti Cricket Academy for its innovation, saying it will help expose talent in the region. “We sincerely appreciate the founders of Soroti Cricket Academy as our development partners. We pledge our full support for their activities and initiatives,” Turinawe noted, adding that the academy’s contributions to player development are invaluable and widely recognized.

Soroti District Sports Officer Richard Etidu also commended the event, suggesting that similar runs should be conducted across all districts in Teso to further promote sports and community engagement.
