All roads lead to the Soroti City Sports Grounds this Saturday, December 20, 2025, for the inaugural Soroti Cricket Academy Charity Run, set to take place at the Soroti Cricket Oval.

Organised by the Soroti Cricket Academy, the event is designed to showcase and amplify the game of cricket in Soroti while raising funds to support the academy’s programs.

“As part of the Carnival celebrations, we have introduced the Soroti Cricket Academy Charity Run to help us raise funds to build dreams through sports and education, with races of 5km, 10km, and 15km,” explained Felix Musana, chairperson of the academy.

Musana emphasized that full participation in the Carnival and Charity Run will enable the academy to sustain its operations. Founded in 2014, the academy’s vision has been to empower youth in Soroti and the wider Teso sub-region through cricket, with a strong focus on keeping the girl child in school.

“Every year, the academy organizes programs such as the January Holiday Camp, the U-13 Mini Cricket Challenge for primary schools, the U-15 Secondary Schools Tennis Ball Challenge, the U-18 Musana Cup for boys and girls, and the December Holiday Camp, among others, to help cricketers improve their skills,” Musana noted.

The academy’s growing pool of talent has led to the formation of three clubs that now compete in the national cricket league: Olila High School, Soroti Challengers CC (ladies), and Soroti Blazers CC (men).

Sarah Akiteng, a Soroti Cricket Academy alumna who recently graduated from Kyambogo University, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the academy for its unwavering support throughout her education journey. She encouraged young athletes to participate in the Charity Run, describing it as a potential entry point for discovering and nurturing their careers.
