She Cranes crowned Africa Netball Champions, qualify for 2027 World Cup

The She Cranes are champions of Africa.

Uganda defeated defending champions South Africa 56–53 in a thrilling final to claim the Africa Netball Cup title, dethroning the Proteas and cementing their place as the continent's top netball nation.

The victory caps a remarkable campaign for the She Cranes, who battled through a competitive field to reach the final and then held their nerve against a South African side that had dominated African netball in recent years.

The win carries even greater significance: Uganda has now officially qualified for the Sydney 2027 Netball World Cup in Australia.

For veteran goal attacker Racheal Nanyonga, the qualification is a full-circle moment. Nanyonga was part of Uganda's 2015 World Cup squad that travelled to Sydney, and she remains the only active player from that historic team. If selected for 2027, it would be her third World Cup appearance, following her participation in 2015 and 2019.

"I am so excited to go back to Australia. I did well that year in 2015 and hopefully we will put up a good show," Nanyonga said earlier.

The She Cranes' triumph in the Africa Netball Cup final sends a clear message: Uganda is no longer just a contender — they are champions. And with Sydney 2027 on the horizon, the She Cranes are ready to take on the world.
