Five-time Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) champion Ibrahim Lubaga Pasuwa is set to make his international rally debut at the upcoming Mountain Gorilla Rally in Rwanda, with his sights firmly set on conquering the highly competitive 2WD category.
His manager, Hajji Musa Mulika, noted that this is a great opportunity for the rally ace to explore other waters, as it is something he has always wished for him before he upgrades.
"If Pasuwa goes to Rwanda, I don't think anyone can beat him in his class. He masters the art of driving," Hajji Musa Mulika said.
The Ugandan speedster, renowned for his consistency and dominance in the local championship, believes the event presents the perfect opportunity to test his abilities beyond Uganda's borders. Pasuwa heads into the rally determined to leave a lasting impression and prove his worth against some of the region's finest drivers.
"My target is to compete in Rwanda, win the event and call it quits before I join the Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) class," Pasuwa said confidently.
The multiple champion will be behind the wheel of his trusted Toyota FX, a machine he has affectionately nicknamed "my baby." The car has played a significant role in his success story and remains close to his heart. "When I win my class, I will hang up my baby and trust me, it won't be for sale because its value is unknown," he added with a smile.
The Mountain Gorilla Rally, which will run from July 10 to 12, serves as a premier round of the FIA African Rally Championship. The three-day event will feature 12 competitive stages spread across Rwanda's challenging terrain, including fast and dusty red-earth roads as well as a thrilling super special stage expected to attract huge crowds.
More than 30 drivers from across the region are expected to participate in the prestigious event, setting the stage for intense competition and spectacular action.
For Pasuwa, the rally represents more than just another race; it is an opportunity to crown a remarkable chapter in his 2WD career before embarking on the next phase of his motorsport journey in the more powerful 4WD category.
