The National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball team received a warm gesture of appreciation during NIC Holdings’ Annual General Meeting held on Thursday afternoon at the company’s headquarters in central Kampala.

Team captain Nassimu Mutesi presented the East Africa Club Netball Championship trophy to Managing Director Elias Edu, who rewarded the players with a cash bonus for their outstanding performance and for proudly representing both the country and the company.

“When they were leaving, we promised to reward them if they won—and today, we’ve fulfilled that promise in front of our shareholders. It’s a strong endorsement for continued support,” said Edu.

The NIC netball team went unbeaten throughout the tournament, reaffirming their status as the gold standard in East African netball.

“Beyond the tokens of appreciation, we also employ some of the players. We want to see them grow into the next Mary Nuba or Peace Proscovia, who also played for us and are now professionals,” Edu added.

For the players, the recognition was both meaningful and motivating.

“We always go out there as champions. Despite the challenges, we came back winners. We faced KCCA in both the group stage and the final—and beat them by a margin of 15 goals, which was a great achievement,” said Mutesi.

“As a player, it’s incredibly motivating to know that your efforts are valued. We’re grateful and blessed to have a management team like NIC that pushes us to work hard and become champions.”

The NIC team is set to return to action next weekend as they continue their competitive season.
