Senior national netball team midcourt player Margaret Baagala has completed a major transfer to defending champions KCCA Netball Club, ending her five-year spell with National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Netball Club.

Baagala, 23, joined NIC in 2020 and quickly established herself as one of Uganda’s finest center court players, earning recognition for her consistent performances and leadership qualities.

During her time at NIC, the club managed just one National Netball Super League title, a modest return largely due to prolonged administrative wrangles within the Uganda Netball Federation, which saw the league suspended for two consecutive seasons. In that same period, NIC lost two league crowns, falling to Prisons Netball Club in 2023 and KCCA in 2025.

Despite domestic challenges, Baagala played a pivotal role in NIC’s regional dominance, helping the club secure four East Africa Netball Championships. Her influence was further acknowledged with promotion to assistant team captain, a role she held for the past three seasons.

Speculation about her future grew midway through last season, and her move to KCCA has now been confirmed, regarded as one of the most significant transfers in recent league history.

Baagala had never featured for another club since leaving St. Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende, where NIC first scouted her. This week marks her official farewell to the insurance company side that nurtured her career.

Away from the court, Baagala holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Kampala University, and her experience and leadership are expected to add immense value to KCCA as they prepare to defend their league crown.

“I am very appreciative of the NIC management for the opportunity they gave me to grow and mature my talent,” Baagala said. “It is the club where I started, but I felt it was time for a change. One of the biggest reasons I left NIC is that for many years I have wanted to play on the same team as my big sister, Norah Lunkuse, who plays for KCCA. Even if she was at a weaker club, I was ready to join her.”

At KCCA, Baagala joins a star-studded squad featuring Shadia Nassanga, Mercy Batamuliza, Brenda Nakazibwe, Shaffie Nalwanja, and Christine Nakitto, further strengthening the champions’ depth and ambition.
