The 16th edition of the ICPAU Youth and Junior Woodball Championship promises to be bigger and better, taking place on Saturday at Kyambogo University.

The one-day event has attracted 600 participants from 100 primary and secondary schools, up from 400 participants last year.

Uganda Woodball Federation Secretary Adam Kato said the increased participation is a strong motivator for the federation, signaling that more schools are embracing the sport.

"We are excited not only to continue our 16-year partnership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), but also to see the growing number of participating institutions," Kato said at a media briefing where ICPAU committed 21 million shillings to this year’s championship.

Kato assured participants that the organizing committee, alongside health officials, will prioritize safety and environmental protection.

The event was originally slated for Koboko in the West Nile region but was moved to Kyambogo due to Ebola concerns.

"Despite relocating the event from Koboko to Kampala, we are not relaxing any health protocols. We will ensure participant safety remains paramount by following medical guidelines," Kato added.

Lydia Tusiime, ICPAU Manager of Business and Development, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to continued support.

"We began this partnership in 2010, when woodball was not as big as it is now. We have come a long way, and together with woodball, we are confident we will promote the sport and uphold ICPAU’s core values of professionalism, excellence, accountability, integrity, and responsiveness," she said.

Last year, Our Lady of Africa Secondary School (Namilyango) won the boys’ category, while Luzira Secondary School claimed the girls’ title.
