Soroti v YMCA
Innocent Masuk produced a man of the match performance as Bugema University edged Bishop Stuart University 4-0 on Thursday in Bugema, Luwero district to record their first victory of the ongoing Pepsi University Football League (UFL).
The right-footed winger scored the opening goal of the match in the fourth minute and also provided an assist to Derrick Musinguzi's goal in the 81st minute which sealed a four-star performance in front of their home fans.
Besides being involved in two goals, Masuk made tireless runs from the right wing which caused trouble to Bishop Stuart defenders throughout the match.
Every time he had the ball, Bugema fans were on their feet, clapping and appreciating his trickery runs and powerful shots from distance. As one of the few experienced players still on the team, Masuk created spaces for his teammates to also score goals.
He had a hand in the goals scored by Aziz Opio and Eric Sawa, though not directly providing the assists but he was involved in the build up.
Aside from Masuk's exceptional individual performance, other players in the Bugema team were on top of their game. They started strong and finished strong allowing their visitors no chance to trouble their goalkeeper, Ronald Karungi.
The victory was much needed for Bugema after a goalless draw away against Kabale University on the opening day. It lifted them to second place in group B with four points, Muteesa 1 Royal University top the table with six points from two games. Bishop Stuart is third with three points while Kabale are fourth with just a point, African Renewal have one point in fifth place and International University of East of East Africa (IUEA) are bottom with no point after two defeats from two matches.
League action continues on Sunday in group C with Soroti University hosting YMCA in Soroti City.
