Voting kicks off after three get nominated for speakership

Voting for the next speaker of the 12th parliament has kicked off following the nomination of three Members of Parliament (MPs) to contest for the position.
The nominated candidates are; former defence minister Jacob Oboth-Oboth (West Budama Central) representing the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party, Paul Mwiri (Jinja South East) on the National Unity Platform ticket, and Norbert Mao (Laroo-Pece in Gulu city) on the Democratic Party ticket.
The Order Paper released on Sunday, May 24, is being followed, and Parliament convened at exactly 10:00am to start the election process.

The Speaker will be elected first and will receive the instruments of power before MPs proceed to vote for the Deputy Speaker. The Speaker will preside over the voting of his deputy.
