ADJUMANI - Police in north-western Uganda are investigating a deadly attack in Adjumani district that left three people dead and two others injured amid rising tensions between rival communities.
Speaking at a press briefing in Naguru on Monday (April 13), police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said the attack occurred in the early hours of April 9, 2026, when a group of assailants armed with bows, arrows, and pangas attacked members of the Madi community.
The deceased were identified as Susan Wonzia, Ann Anna Abiria, and Caroline Mamawi.
“At around 2:30 am, attackers believed to be from a neighbouring community launched a coordinated assault, resulting in the death of three individuals and injuries to two others,” Kituuma said.
Security teams comprising the Police and the UPDF responded swiftly to the scene and arrested five suspects, who were found in possession of bows and arrows.
Kituuma said security forces have since been deployed in the area to prevent retaliatory violence and restore calm. (Credit: Mpalanyi Ssentongo)
