Police have warned religious institutions to strengthen security measures following a break-in and theft at a Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kavumba, Wakiso district.

Addressing journalists on Monday (April 13) at the police headquarters in Naguru, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said three suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.

He identified the suspects as Ronald Sekitoleko, along with accomplices identified only as Wabwire and Robert.

The trio is accused of breaking into Kavumba SDA Church on April 11, 2026, and stealing musical equipment, including amplifiers.

“Our officers managed to recover the stolen items from a nearby house. Some of the recovered property had earlier been stolen from a mosque, indicating that the suspects were targeting multiple places of worship,” Kituuma said.

The suspects are currently in police custody pending further investigations.

Kituuma used the incident to warn religious institutions against complacency, noting that places of worship are increasingly being targeted by criminals.

“In the past, there was a belief that churches and mosques would not be targeted because of their sacred nature. That is no longer the case,” he said.

He cautioned that criminals often conduct surveillance during prayer times before striking at night.

“These individuals study your patterns, and when the opportunity arises, they attack. We urge religious leaders to enhance security around their premises,” Kituuma added.

Police have advised institutions to install security measures such as perimeter fencing, surveillance systems, and guards to deter potential attacks.
