At least three South Sudanese were injured on the afternoon of March 2, 2026, by suspected hostile armed poachers on the border with Uganda.

The 1:00pm grisly attack occurred at Imiling village, less than a kilometre inside South Sudan. However, the border village lies in the same proximity to the Karenga district in Uganda, some 440 kilometres North of Moroto town.

Sources along the Uganda-South Sudan border told New Vision Online that the trio were travelling on a red colour boxer motorbike reg. no. RSS EEG 702RA, inside the South Sudanese village, when the armed gang confronted them with sporadic fire.

So far, the trio identified as Lomeja Petero, John Mark Lomilo and Daniel Lopyomioe are receiving treatment at a yet to be identified health facility inside South Sudan.

When contacted, Karamoja region Police spokesperson Mike Longole acknowledged the incident, saying the forces on the border have intensified the search for the gang known to be operating within the Kidepo Valley National Game Park.

“When we heard the bullets, our forces responded swiftly to tame the situation,” Longole said, adding that the attack came barely two days after the armed gang attempted to attack Kato’s farm in Karenga district.

However, the attackers were repulsed by the joint forces of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, before scattering in the national game park.
