WAKISO - Security agencies have arrested a key suspect accused of leading a violent attack on a Kawafu resident earlier this month, following a joint intelligence-led operation in Abaita Ababiri.
The suspect, identified as Grace Nabete, also known as “FBI” or “Escobar,” was apprehended on February 17, 2026, in connection with the assault on Richard Batabane at his Wakiso district-based home on the night of February 12.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said investigations indicate that Nabete allegedly led a group that trailed Batabane to his residence before attacking him at his gate.
“Preliminary findings show that the suspect led a group that followed the victim to his home and attempted to strangle him at his gate,” Owoyesigyire said.
“During the scuffle, the victim sustained a broken arm and injuries to his leg.”
According to the Police, the attack occurred late at night, and the assailants fled the scene after leaving the victim seriously injured.
While recovering from his injuries, Batabane recorded and shared a video on social media recounting his ordeal, a development that drew public attention and prompted swift action from security agencies.
“Acting on credible information and following up on the incident, security agencies mounted a coordinated operation in the early hours of February 17, 2026, which led to the arrest of Grace Nabete in Abaita Ababiri,” Owoyesigyire added.
The suspect is currently in custody to assist with investigations, as police intensify efforts to apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the attack.
“We reassure the public of our continued commitment to ensuring safety and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice,” Owoyesigyire said.
According to the 2024 Annual Crime Report of the Police, assault only comes second to theft in general crimes reported between 2019 and 2024.
For instance, out of the 218,715 cases reported to the Police countrywide in 2024, 29,580 were assault related.
