Security operatives in Lwengo district have arrested seven suspects in connection with drug-related crimes and stolen motorcycle parts following co-ordinated Police operations in the area.
Speaking to the media on March 3, 2025, at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Police spokesperson, Rusoke Kituuma, said the suspects were apprehended during operations conducted on February 28 in Colombia and Nakatete, villages in Magirisi Parish, Lwengo sub-county.
“Our officers, with the help of local leaders, carried out targeted operations in these areas and arrested seven individuals. The suspects were found in possession of a significant quantity of marijuana,” Kituuma said.
He commended local council leaders for their cooperation in the successful operation.
Number plates recovered
Meanwhile, on March 1, Police received intelligence about stolen motorcycle number plates hidden in a plantation owned by Jumba Rashid, who was already in custody for a related robbery case.
“Acting on this information, police searched in Rweyebere village, Lwengo Rural sub-county, where we recovered several stolen number plates,” Kituuma revealed. The recovered number plates include;
Police later extended their operation where they searched a suspect’s house and found a motorcycle key believed to belong to one of the stolen motorcycles.
“Our teams are still investigating the matter, and we call upon anyone who may have lost a motorcycle or number plate to report to the nearest police station,” Kituuma stated.
