KAMPALA - Like his famous local lyrics, “You know me sitya danger nebwonkanga" (I'm not afraid of danger, even if you scare me), local musician Mulwana Patrick aka Alien Skin shocked Police officers when he handpicked an abandoned grenade from his construction site and brought it to them.

He told them that he suspected the object to be a bomb.

However, according to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the police officers who had been invited to inspect the suspicious object instead immediately told Mulwana to put it down for his safety and move away.

Unknown to the musician, the device could have endangered his life by exploding in his hands.

The incident, according to Onyango, happened on July 1, 2025, at about 3:30pm, when the Police received a report about a suspected explosive at Mulwana’ home in Nakinyogozi village, Makindye Division, Kampala city.

Upon arrival at the site, Onyango stated, Mulwana came out and “presented the grenade to the officers who advised him to put it down for safety”.

He told the officers that his workers had discovered it while digging a foundation at his construction site and decided to call the Police.

According to Onyango, the area was cordoned off, and a bomb squad team was invited and conducted a controlled detonation.

“The grenade was identified as a Russian hand-thrown grenade. Police processed the scene and documented it,” he stated.

Onyango said the Police urge the public to always exercise caution when encountering suspicious items and must avoid touching or moving them.

“We ask to instead inform the authorities immediately, like Local Council leaders or call the Police," he said.

However, Mulwana followed the Police instructions and complied when he was told to place the object down. It was not yet established how the grenade was abandoned in the area, but Onyango said inquiries were still at hand.
