Police on Monday, March 9, 2026, said they had recovered coach Mike Mutebi, who went missing on March 7, 2026, from Kisubi Beach.

Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said Mutebi, “has been recovered in Kisubi around a banana plantation. He is currently in hospital as medical personnel assess his health condition. We thank all those who volunteered information about his whereabouts.”

Earlier on Monday, Owoyesigyire said territorial police at Entebbe Police Station were investigating the disappearance of Mutebi.

Owoyesigyire said Mutebi had attended a Catholic seminar at the beach and was last seen at about 6:30pm as participants prepared to travel back to Kampala. However, upon arrival in Kawempe, he could not be accounted for.

“Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to report to the nearest police station or contact Entebbe Police Station on 0775318345 immediately,” Owoyesigyire said.

Mutebi was a former Uganda national team (Uganda Cranes) player, but his legacy as a coach is closely associated with his time at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club.

During his tenure between 2016 and 2021, KCCA FC featured prominently in continental football, and he helped the club win three Uganda Premier League titles, two Uganda Cups, four Super Cups and the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Club Championship.

Mutebi also coached SC Villa and Rwanda’s AS Kigali. At the international level, he took charge of the Uganda Cranes in 2004.
