Police on Monday, March 9, 2026, said they had succeeded in operations against cattle theft and aggravated robbery, through arresting four suspects in separate incidents.
Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the said the suspects were arrested as a result of a joint operation police, Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and local community members in Kasanje Town Council following complaints of cattle theft.
"During patrols in crime-prone areas, including Bimbi Swamp, one white-spotted heifer belonging to Augustine Sserwagi was recovered. Police arrested Ramathan Zimbwe, a resident of Kyengera, who is currently detained at Kasanje Police Station and charged with cattle theft," Owoyesigyire said.
He also revealed that in a separate incident on March 9, at about 3:30AM in Kabaale B Ward, Katabi town council, three suspects armed with pangas broke into the home of Patrick Kagenda Amooti (63) and robbed him and his father, Prof. Charles Kagenda Atwooki, of shillings 570,000 and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.
"Police responded swiftly, surrounded the house, and arrested the suspects who had hidden in the ceiling. The suspects have been identified as Sekitoleko Acram, Robert Oluka, and Mbazira Bashir. Police recovered the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and shillings 240,000, part of the stolen," he stated.
Police said investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
"Police commend the community for their cooperation, which greatly contributed to the arrests, " Owoyesigyire stated.
