Police issue guidelines ahead of King Oyo's burial

The Uganda Police Force has issued security and road usage guidelines in preparation for the final send-off of King Oyo Nyimba Rukidi IV, scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Fort Portal City.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke stated that the guidelines are intended to ensure a successful send-off of the Omukama.
During an interview, Kituuma mentioned that all mourners would be subjected to security checks at various checkpoints.
He emphasised that sharp tools, including knives, nails, blades, and other harmful items, are prohibited.
"For your own comfort, please avoid carrying heavy bags and adhere to all directives," Kituuma advised while inspecting St. John's Cathedral, where the King's send-off function will take place.

He emphasised that sharp tools, including knives, nails, blades, and other harmful items, are prohibited.
"For your own comfort, please avoid carrying heavy bags and adhere to all directives," Kituuma advised while inspecting St. John's Cathedral, where the King's send-off function will take place.
Additionally, fewer than 20 vehicles, including the hearse, will be permitted at the burial site in Karambi.
Rwenzori West Regional Police Spokesperson Vincent Twesige warned about restricted movement, stating that many roads within Fort Portal City would be closed, adding that alternative routes had been provided for diverted traffic.
"Vehicles travelling from Kasese to Kampala and those going from Kampala to Kasese will be affected. However, our traffic officers will be stationed at various diversion points to guide you," Twesige said.
