PLU seeks to collect 350,000 in Kampala

As the Presidential endorsement drive of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba continues across the country, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has launched a 350,000-signature endorsement drive within Kampala.
The drive is being spearheaded by the Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Minsa Kabanda, who doubles as Kampala Central MP.
During an endorsement activity at the PLU offices in Nakasero today (September 24), Minsa arrived at the PLU who came with an group of over 200 PLU supporters from Makindye, Nakawa, Lubaga, Central and Kawempe divisions.
“Endorsing Gen. Muhoozi doesn’t mean that we have moved away from the NRM party. We are still NRM. PLU and the NRM party are the same just like father and son are the same.
Out of the five divisions of Kampala, we seek to collect 350,000 endorsement signatures of Gen. Muhoozi,” Minsa said.

She noted that although the NRM party has structures, PLU hasn’t established its structures, adding that there is no need for power structures among the organisation’s members.

''With the ongoing endorsements and search for 19 million signatures, we expect these to also reflect as votes come 2031. We do not expect to see or hear anyone questioning him or herself where the votes came from,” Kabanda said.
When the National Resistance Army (NRA) was fighting in the bush, it had many leaders, but all had the same goal, which was to take over power, Kabanda said, adding that PLU might also have many offices, but they all have the same goal and serve one goal.
“As a supporter of PLU, it's upon you to go and endorse Gen. Muhoozi from any PLU office across the country. Our goal is for Gen. Muhoozi to become President of Uganda in 2031. How will Gen. Muhoozi become the President of Uganda without us mobilising and endorsing him,” Kabanda said
Despite Gen. Muhoozi still being a senior serving officer, Kabanda re-echoed that Gen. Muhoozi’s bid was sanctioned by President Yoweri Museveni.
Currently, Gen. Muhoozi is the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and a senior presidential advisor in charge of special operations.
According to the UPDF Act, Gen. Muhoozi will have to retire from the army if he is to join elective politics. Section 99 of the UPDF Act stipulates; "A serving officer or militant who desires to seek political office shall first resign or retire from the defence forces according to regulations made by the minister (of defence)."
