Nsambya Babies’ Home Charity Walk raises sh165m for abandoned children

The annual Nsambya Babies’ Home Charity Walk over the weekend generated sh165m.
The July 25, 2026 event, the fourth one of its kind, attracted hundreds of people of different age groups and social status; all bound together by love for children.
The charity walk was flagged off by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Justine Kasule Lumumba, at the Uganda Railway Grounds on Jinja Road in Kampala.

The enthusiastic stakeholders, friends, sponsors and well-wishers, led by the Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Dr Michael Atingi-Ego (the Chief Walker), marched to Nsambya Babies’ Home in Makindye Division. A Brass Band of the Uganda Police played as the procession followed.
Sr. Sarah Nnaamala, the Director of Child Welfare and Child Adoption Society of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, which oversees Nsambya Babies’ Home, thanked participants for their love, support and devotion to the disadvantaged young ones.

She noted that the children’s home keeps mainly abandoned babies and children aged between 0 and five years.
Sr. Nnaamala appealed to government to include Nsambya Babies’ Home and other child-protection-inclined facilities, into the national budget.
She argued that many schools and health facilities that government assists, charge school fees or user fees from the beneficiaries or clients, however, babies’ home do not get any facilitation to care for the children.

In response, Lumumba promised to present Sr. Nnaamala’s request before Cabinet and the relevant ministries.
She also lauded the Catholic Sisters for the good work they do at Nsambya Babies Home, and other children’s homes under the care of Child Welfare and Adoption Society. She donated sh20m to the home.

During the same function, Atingi-Ego presided over a mini-fundraising session, during which a total of sh165m was raised in cash and pledges.

The major donors included Centenary Bank, Bank of Uganda, URA, and the Association of the Religious of Uganda, among others.
