The Anglican Diocese of West Buganda celebrated the consecration and enthronement of its new bishop, the Right Reverend Gaster Nsereko, at St Paul's Cathedral in Kako.

The ceremony, attended by thousands of Christians, clergy, and dignitaries, marked a new chapter in the diocese's leadership.

Bishop Nsereko was consecrated by Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, who emphasised the importance of servant leadership.

The new bishop pledged to focus on poverty eradication, support for church leaders, and the promotion of family values, farming, and education.

President Yoweri Museveni's message, delivered by Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Ruth Nankabirwa Sentamu, urged Bishop Nsereko to prioritise poverty eradication.

The President thanked the outgoing bishop, Henry Katumba Tamale, for his contributions and highlighted the government's commitment to supporting the Church’s efforts to combat poverty.

Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu emphasised the importance of servant leadership.

Bishop Nsereko expressed gratitude to God and promised to work tirelessly for the spiritual revival and development of West Buganda Diocese.

He also vowed to foster unity among Christians and champion holistic development within the diocese.

Bishop Bogere of Bukedi was the preacher of the day.

The event was attended by political leaders, Buganda kingdom representatives, and members of the laity. 

West Buganda Diocese serves eight districts, comprising 127 parishes and 13 archdeaconries. Bishop Nsereko becomes its seventh bishop, replacing the Right Rev. Henry Katumba Tamale.
