Minister Ntabazi urges Ugandans to follow building regulations

The State Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development (Lands), Harriet Ntabazi, has urged Ugandans to strictly adhere to physical planning and building regulations when constructing houses and other structures.
Ntabazi warned the public against constructing buildings in wetlands or commencing construction without obtaining approved building plans from the relevant authorities.
"Do not just build anywhere. Whether it is a church, a market or any other structure, always follow the approved physical planning and building guidelines," she said.
The minister made the remarks while officiating at the opening of the 5th Uganda Buildcon International Expo at the Uganda Manufacturers' Association Multipurpose Hall in Kampala on, August 6, 2026.
She commended the international exhibitors, who travelled from countries including Egypt and India to showcase their products, technologies and innovations at the exhibition.
Ntabazi encouraged the exhibitors and other foreign investors to invest in Uganda, saying the country enjoys political stability and offers enormous investment opportunities.

"Uganda is peaceful and politically stable. Our economy is growing, and the demand for quality housing and infrastructure is increasing. We welcome investors to take advantage of these opportunities across the country," she said.
The minister issued a stern warning to cement manufacturers accused of packaging underweight cement.
She said her ministry will work closely with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives and other relevant government agencies to crack down on companies that sell underweight cement.
According to Ntabazi, such practices compromise construction standards, contribute to substandard buildings and undermine the country's development efforts.
The 5th Uganda Buildcon International Expo will run until Saturday, August 8, 2026. The exhibition has attracted local and international exhibitors showcasing the latest building materials, construction technologies and innovations aimed at promoting sustainable development in Uganda's construction sector.
