Journalist shot dead in Wakiso, police probe motive

Police have launched investigations into the fatal shooting of a 55-year-old journalist in Wakiso district.

The victim, identified as Joe Nam, was gunned down in the early hours of Sunday (April 19) in Kawanda Central, Nabweru division. Nam was formerly a journalist with New Vision.

Preliminary findings indicate that the attack was carried out by an unidentified armed assailant who was reportedly masked and fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

A team of police officers responded to the scene, where they documented evidence to aid ongoing investigations.

The body was later transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident and said efforts are underway to establish the motive behind the killing and identify the suspect.

“We are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this shooting. Our teams have processed the scene, and we are pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrator,” Owoyesigyire said.

 

Nam worked at the New Vision business desk but also covered the environmental sector. At the time of his death, he had ventured into consultancy and had published a book.
