Commonwealth Secretary-General meets CDF, calls for Uganda's full participation in CHOGM

The Secretary-General highlighted the importance of the upcoming CHOGM and expressed optimism that Uganda would take part in all the activities of the meeting.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Her Excellency the Honourable Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has called on Uganda to participate fully in the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda.

She made the call during a meeting with the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.

The Secretary-General highlighted the importance of the upcoming CHOGM and expressed optimism that Uganda would take part in all the activities of the meeting.

She thanked the General for finding time to host her and her delegation.

Her Excellency Botchwey is a Ghanaian politician, diplomat, and lawyer who assumed office in 2025, becoming the first African woman and only the second African leader overall to head the 56-member organisation.

 



Prior to her appointment to the Commonwealth Secretariat, she served as Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration from 2017 to 2025.

The meeting with the CDF was also attended by Ambassador Kwabena Osei-Danquah, Chief of Staff and Senior Director in the Secretary-General's Office, and Hon. Adonia Ayebare, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The CDF thanked the Secretary-General for the visit and pledged Uganda’s commitment and full participation in the CHOGM activities.
