The body of Kikuube district chairperson Peter Banura Araali will be laid to rest on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Rumiina, Buhimba town council, Kikuube district.

Banura, aged 51, was fatally struck by a speeding vehicle on March 4, 2026.

According to the burial programme released by the Kikuube district local government, the send-off arrangements will begin on Monday, April 6, 2026, when the body will leave A-Plus Funeral Services in Kampala and be taken to the family’s residence in Kigo.

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, a requiem mass will be held at Christ the King Church in Kampala at midday.

The following day, Wednesday, the body will be transported to the KikuuBe District Council for a special council sitting and viewing at 11:30 am. A vigil will later be held at the deceased’s home in Rumiina, Buhimba. Burial is scheduled for Thursday at the same location.

The programme was announced by the Kikuube chief administrative officer, Rev. Canon Edward Musingye, who described the deceased as a dependable and composed leader, who had been clear in what he wanted.

Police have since confirmed that only one person died in the crash, contradicting earlier reports suggesting multiple fatalities.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening on the Hoima–Fort Portal road at Butyamba village when a Toyota Hiace, registration number UBQ 853E, reportedly lost control due to overspeeding and rammed into a parked Toyota Hilux, registration number UG 3400084, belonging to Banura.

Albertine region police spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza told the press on Sunday (April 5) that only one person died, while two male adults sustained injuries.

He added that the driver of the Toyota Hiace remains on the run, although efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.

According to Matia Kajura, a cousin of the deceased who witnessed the postmortem at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, the family handed over the body to A-Plus Funeral Services for further management in Kampala.

The body was transported from Hoima on Sunday at 3:00 am and arrived in Kampala at approximately 6:45 am.
