Bunyoro leaders tasked with mobilising citizens for wealth creation

KAKUMIRO - Leaders at different levels in Bunyoro sub-region have been challenged to double their efforts in mobilising local communities to embrace wealth creation for their socio-economic transformation.
Works and transport minister Fred Byamukama said there is a need for leaders to engage local communities in Bunyoro to take advantage of several government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women (GROW) to have income-generating activities for their households and move from poverty to a money economy.
Byamukama made the call on Friday during a function where he was celebrating his triumph as an unopposed National Resistance Movement (NRM) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bugangaizi West Constituency in Kakumiro district.
The event took place at Kikwaya Primary School playgrounds in Kakumiro.

Byamukama noted that it was high time that all leaders preached the gospel of wealth creation to ensure that people have income-generating activities.
“When people have money, they are easier to lead; instead of coming to your home every morning to beg for handouts, they will be the ones to give you as their leaders. Recently, my voters gifted me with lots of items including cows because they now have money,” he said.

Speaking at the same function, the Prime Minister and Woman MP for Kakumiro district, Robinah Nabbanja, called for unity and teamwork among leaders to enable them to implement the NRM manifesto.
“We have to support our President (Yoweri Museveni) to ensure that all his pledges in the manifesto get fulfilled, for example, working on roads, making sure that people get PDM money, engage in all wealth creation programmes, get good health and education services,” she said.
The Premier announced that the sh300m, which she received to buy a car, will be used to buy ambulances for different health facilities in her district since she already has a car.
Speaking as chief guest, Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, the NRM vice chairperson in charge of the western region and state minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, commended the people of Bunyoro for voting NRM overwhelmingly and promised that the Government would continue supporting local governments in the sub-region for better service delivery.
"The Government is going to increase PDM money, road funds, and all these are focusing on helping our people to transform their lives. As Bunyoro leaders, we are also going to work together and lobby for an innovation initiative for this sub-region, which will help in creating jobs for our young people,” he said.
