Comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose, once had a simple but ambitious dream: to board an aeroplane and fly. He simply wanted to experience what it felt like to leave Uganda's soil while seated comfortably in the sky!
One day, Kapere visited the National Unity Platform (NUP) offices, where he met party president Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine.
During their meeting, the comedian made his request clear, passionately reminding Bobi Wine of the good things he had done for others and pleading to also receive his own blessing.
Bobi Wine promised to put him on a plane, and true to his word, the dream eventually became reality.
Before the big journey, Bobi Wine and his aides hosted Kapere at One Love Beach in Busabala, where they shared a meal, laughter and memorable moments. The comedian could hardly contain his excitement. For once, the man who had spent years making others laugh was the happiest person in the room.
Kapere finally got his wings in January 2025. On the flight, at least according to videos shared, Kapere utilized ‘everything’ from the on-flight food, the headsets and notably taking a dump while in the skies.
In Dubai, Kapere, draped in a NUP beret and Ugandan flag thanked his fans. “Who would ever know that I would also be here and talk to you? But President (Bobi Wine) you really did me a disservice by not informing me in advance about the surprise flight. Had I known, I would have come with enough money to shop for expensive gadgets and clothes. My president, I love you so much,” he said amid cheers.
Sadly, life has delivered a heartbreaking twist to this beautiful story.
Kapere died on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Royale Health Services Hospital in Buddo, Wakiso District, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
In his touching tribute, Bobi Wine remembered the man behind the funny face, describing him as a sincere, warm-hearted individual whose personality was far greater than his physical appearance.
"His parents named Mbuuse Yokana, the world knew him as Kapere Lufotose and his friends called him Taata Twamp," Bobi Wine wrote.
He described Kapere as a beautiful soul who refused to let his appearance define him, choosing instead to be remembered for his kindness, character and sincerity.
Bobi Wine also praised him as a loving husband, a gifted artist and a man who understood the power of his voice and chose to use it for his country.
What makes this story particularly emotional is that Kapere's Dubai dream was not just about travelling. It was about feeling remembered, appreciated and given an opportunity to experience something he had long wished for.
Bobi Wine fulfilled that wish, and the two shared moments that will now remain memories. Sadly, the comedian has taken his final flight. This time, there is no return ticket. There was a requiem service for him at National Unity Platform offices on Monday. He will be buried in Mukono on Tuesday.
