GLOUCESTER - The famous Gloucestershire cheese rolling event could soon be officially recognized for its cultural impact, in a new heritage list.
Communities will soon be able to put forward their favourite traditions for consideration, into the Inventory of Living Heritage in the UK. There will be different categories, including performing arts, sports and games. The culture department is hoping to start conversations, to tell "our national story to the world". Nominations open later this year. Each year, people turn out to watch thrill-seekers hurl themselves 200 yards down the 1:2 gradient, chasing wheels of double Gloucester cheese.
