Trouble has deepened for event promoter Norbert Twizire, popularly known as Nobat Events, after he was remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations surrounding the management of funds belonging to music promoters.

Nobat appeared before the Makindye Magistrates Court on Monday, October 5, 2026, alongside fellow promoter Twaha Mujabi, as the duo faced allegations linked to the management of funds released to the Kampala and Beyond United Music Promoters SACCO.

Prosecution alleges that the two were involved in the mismanagement of about Shs1 billion in government funds released to the SACCO.

They are also accused of allegedly mismanaging approximately Shs31.9 million in members' savings, adding another layer to an increasingly bitter dispute within the promoters' SACCO.

Court drama

The court appearance turned dramatic, with Nobat said to have engaged in a physical altercation during the proceedings.

His appearance in court followed reports that he had been detained at Katwe Police Station over allegations connected to the handling of the SACCO funds.

The promoter, who has been vocal about issues affecting Uganda's entertainment industry, now finds himself at the centre of a legal battle that could have far-reaching implications for the promoters' association.

Nobat and Mujabi were remanded as the case proceeds. The two have not been convicted, and the allegations against them remain allegations until determined by a competent court.

They are expected back in court on October 26, 2026, when the matter will come up for further proceedings.

The latest development comes months after tensions erupted in Uganda's entertainment circles over the distribution of government support to music promoters.

In January, Nobat publicly expressed frustration with Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex, the acting president of the Federation of Uganda Promoters Association.

Nobat alleged that a substantial government payout had been secured to support promoters who had suffered financial losses and were struggling to keep their businesses afloat.

However, he questioned how the funds were distributed, claiming that some promoters he considered undeserving were prioritised while established promoters were left out.

Nobat further alleged that Abtex had pushed forward relatively unknown promoters, as well as people he personally associated with, to benefit from the money.

The allegations sparked tension within entertainment circles, with Nobat maintaining that he was among the established promoters who qualified for the support.
