Controversial public figure Nobert Twizire, popularly known as Nobat Events, has broken his silence following his release from prison.

He claims his arrest was politically motivated and linked to his appointment as the National Coordinator of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

Nobat, who spent approximately one and a half months on remand, says his appointment to the PLU position angered some individuals who allegedly sought to tarnish his reputation and use his name to divert attention from other issues.

Speaking after his release, he also revisited the controversial SACCO funds saga that led to his arrest, insisting that his organisation had nothing to hide.

He said his SACCO received only Shs1b out of the Shs10b reportedly provided by President Yoweri Museveni, while two other SACCOs each received Shs4.5b.

According to Nobat, those unhappy with the distribution allegedly orchestrated his arrest, despite his insistence that he had distributed the money to the intended beneficiaries.

"The issues involve politics because of the position I got in PLU as the National Coordinator, which hurt many people. But the main reason was that they wanted to ride on my name and stage a diversion," he claimed.

"The President gave us Shs10b. My SACCO got Shs1b, while the other two SACCOs each got Shs4.5b. So they had to play all sorts of tricks to get me arrested, yet I had distributed the money because my members got their share," he added.

Nobat had initially been expected to return to court on November 16 for the hearing of his case. However, he declined to explain why he had been released before the scheduled date, saying that the question was better directed to the judges.

He also had a message for Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, saying he did not hold her responsible for his arrest because she was merely performing her official duties.

However, he believes the prime minister should have given him an opportunity to explain his side of the SACCO controversy before taking action that eventually led to his detention.

"I don't blame her because she just played her role. But before ordering my arrest, she should have first listened to my side of the story, which she didn't," he said.

Nobat further revealed that he intends to formally write to Nabbanja to request an audience with her, where he hopes to personally explain his side of the controversial SACCO funds saga.
