Big Brother Naija — finally an eviction

On Sunday, the first evictions occurred, with Ibifubara and Danboskid leaving the house.

LAGOS - A Big Brother season does not really begin till some of the housemates have been evicted; before that, they are all grandstanding and acting like they are God’s gift to the human race.

But when the first few housemates leave the house, reality checks in really quickly.
So, until the first two housemates left on Sunday (August 10) , the Big Brother Naija Season 10, 10/10, has been quite boring.

First of all, with 29 housemates in the house, there are too many of them.

There are so many that there were two separate launches, the ladies entered on Saturday, and the guys on Sunday.

So we had 15 women and 14 men, all trying to get our attention, which led to some ridiculous things.

First, almost all the women decided to wear the shortest of shorts they could get, which was not a very nice thing, given the shape of some of those legs and curves, or lack of them.

With an average of 28 years, skimpy shorts are not the advised wear, surely.
Ionically, the oldest, Ivatar (37) has the best-toned body and legs.

And when they were not showing off horrible legs, they were fighting. Even the simplest of disagreements led to shouting and swearing about how one will beat the bejesus out of the other.

The commonest stereotype about Nigerians (apart from being scammers) is that they are full of bluster and like shouting to try and make an impression; these housemates are all about proving that.

Another thing that BB Naija housemates think is a must is getting into some kind of relationship. While it is inevitable that within a group of people shut up in one house for an extended period of time, romantic relationships are bound to occur, these ones go out looking for ‘ships’ from Day One.

So, what we have is a series of trial and errors, all looking fake and forced. Not very entertaining viewing.

But on Sunday, the first evictions occurred, with Ibifubara and Danboskid leaving the house.

Apart from the unusual and difficult names, not much will be remembered about those two. At least Ibifubara will be remembered for the outfit she wore for the launch, but not much else. I had not even seen the Dan guy.

In watching these kinds of shows, you get favourites and the ones you don’t like. And what happens to them week after week is what keeps you going. Will these housemates grow on me? I don’t know, but they'd better, for my remote is a fickle one.

In other news, Sabrina left the house for ‘medical’ reasons. It was strange because she did not seem to know what the issue was. We’ll wait for Nigerian gossip columnists to reveal the secret.

And all housemates are up for eviction on Sunday, except Head of House Tracy (first time to actually see her), the one she saved, Kuture, and Rooboy, voted Most Influential by the housemates.
