The court ruling follows months of failed negotiations between the two parties, with Tumusiime reportedly making several attempts to recover his money privately before seeking legal redress.

Popular events promoter Biggie Events, real name Mariam Mutakubwa, was yesterday (Monday 03 November 2025) sentenced to six months in Luzira Prison after failing to clear a debt of shs70,058,700 owed to a businessman identified as David Tumusiime.

The court ruling follows months of failed negotiations between the two parties, with Tumusiime reportedly making several attempts to recover his money privately before seeking legal redress.

According to court prosecutor Sarah Komukya, Mutakubwa was arrested near Ham Building in Kampala and presented before court to respond to the long-standing debt case. When asked to clear the outstanding amount, she was unable to make payment, prompting the magistrate to issue a remand order.

“Court remanded her to Luzira to eat some prison food as she looks for the money and pay for her freedom or serve her sentence and deal with the legal costs later,” Komukya told reporters after the hearing.

The ruling means Mutakubwa will remain behind bars unless she pays the full amount owed or secures an alternative legal settlement.

Mutakubwa, known in entertainment circles for organizing high-profile events and promoting Ugandan artists, now faces a major setback in her career as she serves time in prison.

The case has drawn attention within Kampala’s events industry, with several promoters expressing concern over the growing trend of financial disputes and unpaid debts among entertainment entrepreneurs.
