The United Nations (UN) relief agency has approved the allocation of 10 million U.S. dollars to address urgent and life-saving needs triggered by escalating violence in South Sudan's Jonglei State.
In a statement on Wednesday, the UN office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the funds from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) will target 178,000 conflict-affected people and be implemented by five UN agencies and their partners.
"This CERF allocation is a vital lifeline that will help us reach those most in need," Anita Kiki Gbeho, humanitarian coordinator for South Sudan, was quoted as saying.
According to the statement, the funding will enable the delivery of critical emergency assistance, including primary health care services; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) support; shelter materials and essential non-food items; emergency food assistance through cash-based interventions; and prevention and response services for gender-based violence and violence against children.
The UN agency said the intensified conflict in Jonglei which erupted on Dec. 29, 2025 has displaced more than 250,000 people, forcing families to flee their homes in search of safety and significantly deepening protection risks across affected communities
