HOIMA CITY – The national youth female Member of Parliament elections held at Hoima City Stadium have been reported to be marred by voter bribery, according to poll observers.

Osbon Turyasingura, an election observer, noted that although security deployment had been tightened and the process was calm, unrest was detected due to voter bribery by some candidates.

"What we have observed is that a lot of money has exchanged hands, which is not good. I implore the authorities to ensure that in future polls, the processes are revised," he said during an interview with New Vision.

He also said they had witnessed duplication of tags since the tags didn’t have photos, names and districts of the delegates, suggesting that the Electoral Commission revise that to avoid confusion in the next polls.

Hundreds of youth delegates from across the country converged at Hoima City Stadium for the polls. Voting started at 7:30 am.

Mercy Kanyesigye, independent, Diana Kampe Ampaire NRM, Julia Muhumuza, independent and Edith Nammande Nakayizi contested for the position.
