Whereas the election exercise for the presidential and parliamentary candidates ended well in Jinja district, the tallying of votes concluded in fighting and tear gas.

This was after irate candidates and their agent,s lost tamper accusing Electoral Commission presiding officer Sarah Kabukaire of delaying the announcement of results for the Kagoma county and district Woman Member of Parliament seat.

Moses Walyomu (ind) and Peace Tibyaze (NRM) were in the lead for the Kagoma and women's seat, respectively.

Although Kabukaire had declared for the Kagoma North at 1:25pm on Friday, January 16, 2026, it forced the audience, including the Police, Resident District Commissioner Ahmed Katerega to confront the officials demanding results to be declared.

A fight ensued in the tally centre between supporters and security officers as they attempted to throw them out. The supporters claimed that these attempts were a ruse for changing the results.

The contest was between Fredrick Munyirwa (NRM) and Walyomu.

Later, Kabukaire said there were two ballot boxes whose results had not been tallied.

The boxes were brought and opened only to realise that the candidates had copies of their results.

Walyomu was later declared the winner with 6,685 votes, while Munyirwa, who had walked away while talking on the phone, got 6,123. National Unity Platform candidate Innocent Anyole got 2,385.

Meanwhile, Tibyaze won with 28,733, followed by Monic Namukose (ind) with 14,854, as the incumbent, Loy Katali, came third with 9,632.

However, Kabukaire said the delay was due to some technicalities while entering the results.

She regretted the poor turnout of voters and the failure of the biometric voter verification kits.

On the other hand, security fired rubber bullets, teargas and live bullets to disperse the curious supporters who had spent a night by the roadside waiting for the results outcome.

The crowd responded with hurling stones as they kept returning.
